Program Standards

Personal Family-The family is the basis social unit of society. My family is important to me in many ways.

Spiritual Morals-Above all else I realize that my spiritual beliefs and my ethical and moral values will shape my life. I will do what is right.

Academics and Careers-My primary reasons I am at Ypsilanti High School is to achieve academically, obtain a valuable education, and prepare to enter college. My degree will give me choices.

Strength Fitness-One of the greatest gifts I have is my health. My physical conditioning is a controllable commodity. My conditioning will win for me in the 4th quarter. I will develop lifetime habits.

Football Family-I am part of one of the greatest families known to man. I count on my teammates, and they are counting on me. I will achieve great things for the family.

Caring and Giving-My development does not end in the classroom or on the field. How I function as a total person in society is important. I will give back to the community.

Program Philosophy

Our football program exists for our players. As coaches, we are responsible for preparing each individual to become the best football player he can be. Football is a microcosm of life. The most successful people in life exhibit discipline, a strong work ethic, loyalty, and teamwork. We demand that our players exhibit these characteristics. In our program, we teach our players to set goals, and they learn how to keep these goals in focus and achieve them. The ultimate purpose of our program is to have each student-athlete leave with a superior education and a feeling that his four years at Ypsilanti High School and in our football program have been the best four years of his life. The people who determine the overall success of an athletic program are the players, the student body, the faculty and administration, the community, and the coaching staff.

When the areas mentioned above are achieved, the player will believe they can win.  Thus, winning will take care of itself. Winning is believing!  By basic belief, even though it came originally from another coach, is that “winning is not everything”, but the effort to win is. I must emphasize that I do not believe on the high school level that an undefeated season should be the standard.  However, the all out effort, where every fiber in the athlete’s control is used in an effort to win, is a goal where nothing less should be accepted.
