Partnering for Academic Success
What is P.A.S.?

The Ypsilanti Football Program extends a caring and committed effort toward helping our students' intellectual, cultural, physical and social development. To support this commitment, the Football Program has created an academic support program to assist student-athletes with their academic performance. The name of this program is Partnering for Academic Success. The primary objective of the Commitment to Academic Excellence program is to assist student-athletes in their efforts to complete their degree requirements and to develop the skills necessary to be productive members of society.

Together it takes a village to raise children.
We will include everyone in the process. All parents, teachers, coaches, and athletes will play a role in the success of the student-athlete. First, there will need to be a commitment by all parties. Communication will be the key component to all this program to work. This communication will occur on at least a weekly basis, to make sure that student’s are getting a clear and consistent message from his parents, teachers, and coaches. Second, this program is a dedication to providing mentoring and academic support programs.  We will reach out to several local colleges such as EMU, Concordia and U of M, as well as asking in-school resources such as teachers, coaches, and Honor Society students to provide specific content level tutoring. Finally, this program is to go away from the traditional study table. This program will be geared towards Academic Excellence surrounded by all the necessary resources.

Enrollment
Sign up forms will be available soon online at www.ypsifootball.org and at school.

Right now, this program is only available to football players – until we learn how much time and effort the coaching staff can bear.  If things go smoothly, we’ll open it up to everyone.  If you have a student-athlete who would like to get involved now, we ask that their coach get involved, and we’ll teach them our process and plan.

Communication
Coaches will initiate the P.A.S. process with an introductory phone call or e-mail the first week.  The first contact should determine the best time and process to communicate, what the strengths & weaknesses of the student’s academic performance, and the best way to provide feedback to the student.

Goals
The goals are simple – For every student to earn at least 2.0 GPA in June, and for every student to improve at least .5 points to their GPA over their first semester performance.
